BLOG FEATURE: 100 LAYER CAKE

When Ann Marie, a friend of mine who's a wedding planner, reached out to see if I wanted to participate in an inspiration shoot at an art museum, I jumped at the chance! The inspiration for the shoot sounded fabulous + she had put together a dream team of vendors, not to mention the incredibly talented Haley from Photos by Heart was set to capture the shoot on film.

MY INSPIRATION

I aimed to create something modern that fit the feel of the art museum - it's strong entrance, solid masonry + modern lines. With lots of golds, neutral stonework + dark tones, I started dreaming of something with a strong statement that was a bit soft around the edges. The watercolor pattern on the back of the invitation + the liner pays homage to vintage mid-century modern patterns, but if you look closely, you'll see it's actually a watercolor painting of the museum's logo. Brush lettering - used for the names + initials on the envelope liner - added to the soft feel of the suite, along with the silk ribbon.

The back of the invitation was splattered in metallic copper paint, hinting to the varied styles of art you'll find within its walls - and the various adventures the couple will have in their lifetime together. The copper accent continues onto the invitation's edge, which is painted.

It was so dreamy + who wouldn't have wanted to be at this intimate elopement?! The shoot was featured on 100 Layer Cake - head on over to their blog for more photos

MODERN ROMANCE

Modern. It's a timeless word - built in the past, pointed toward the future yet set in the present. It's a good way to describe marriage - something built in the past, yet pointed toward the future with a love you're enjoying each + every day. Build yourself a modern romance - celebrate it, cherish it + relish in all the little bits that make your heart sing.

When looking for inspiration for an invitation suite, I love to get to know the couple's story, whether it's a real wedding or for an inspiration shoot. This couple has wild hearts + a modern love, unable to be contained + lovingly infectious.

Their romance is passionate, albeit slightly rough around the edged + free-spirited. Using the Pantone 2016 colors, Rose Quartz + Serenity as a foundation, I put together an invitation suite with an ethereal, free-spirited + romantic feel that reflected modern + industrial elements unique to the space.
